Gràcia district
Gràcia was a separate town until the late 19th century, and it still feels like one. Its narrow streets open onto lively squares lined with terrace bars, and it's full of independent shops, small theatres and cinemas showing films in original version. In August, its Festa Major turns whole streets into decorated works of art.

Hop between Plaça del Sol, Plaça de la Virreina and Plaça de la Vila, browse the shops on Carrer de Verdi, and walk up to Park Güell. Casa Vicens, Gaudí's first house, is here too.
One of the most popular neighbourhoods with internationals — friendly, walkable and full of life, though flats can be small and the squares noisy on summer nights.
Decorated streets and concerts every August.
