La Barceloneta

Barceloneta was built in the 18th century on reclaimed land for fishermen and port workers. Its narrow grid of streets, washing hanging from balconies, runs right down to the city's most famous beach. It's busy and touristy in summer, but it's still a real neighbourhood with a strong local identity.

For visitors

Eat bombas at a traditional bar, seafood rice by the port, and spend the afternoon on the beach. Walk the promenade to the Olympic Port or up to the W Hotel.

Living here

Beach life on your doorstep, but tiny flats, summer crowds and tension around tourist rentals. Many residents prefer Poblenou for beach access with more space.
