El Raval

West of La Rambla, El Raval is Barcelona's most multicultural neighbourhood — home to communities from Pakistan, the Philippines, Morocco and beyond, alongside art students and creatives. It has a rougher reputation than its neighbours, especially at night in its southern part, but the upper Raval is full of galleries, vintage shops and great cheap food.

For visitors

Visit MACBA and the CCCB, walk the Rambla del Raval to see Botero's giant cat, and browse the vintage shops on Carrer de la Riera Baixa. Some of the city's best cheap eats are here, from curry houses to Filipino bakeries.

Living here

Affordable for the centre and full of character, but keep your wits about you at night, particularly near the port end.
